Delhi Capitals picked up another win in the IPL Phase to move at the top of the points table again. They locked horns against Rajasthan Royals at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium. DC defeated RR by 33 runs and also improved their run rate and securing 16 points.
With this, they are sure to qualify for the playoffs with only one victory away. They have 6 games left and considering their current form, winning just one among them will be as easy as a, b, c work for them.
DC batted first and RR was performing well in the match when they picked up both the openers including Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw. From then Shreyas Iyer handled the job scoring 43 of 32 with 1 four and 2 sixes. With him, Rishabh Pant played a good partnership knock of 24 runs of 24 balls. They both rotated the strike and helped their team to come out of their collapsing position. Also, Hetmyer’s cameo innings of 28 of 16 helped Delhi Capitals to reach a total of 154 for the loss of 6 wickets.
It seemed like RR will chase down the total with ease considering their performance in their previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. However in front of the quality bowling attack of DC, consisting of Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, and Ravichandran Ashwin, none of the RR batsmen could stand for long. Anrich Nortje and Avesh Khan both picked the openers early and the score became 6 runs with the loss of 2 wickets. No one could get past the score of 20 except Samson.
The lone wolf Sanju Samson scored 70 of 53 with 8 fours and a six. He was not out at the end though he also lost hope as the required run-rate got beyond the limit. Shreyas Iyer was given the player of the match award for his important innings of 43 as well for his captaincy.
