Gerard Pique suffered a calf injury during Barcelona’s match with Athletic Bilbao

During Barcelona’s match against Athletic Bilbao, the star footballer of Barcelona, Gerard Pique suffered a calf injury inside the first 45 minutes of the match, on Saturday. The defender was able to play for 30 minutes. With his injury, he got substituted by Ronald Araujo. Gerard’s injury came when he tried to give a header along with Alex Berenguer of Athletic Bilbao.

Post-completion of the match, which ended as 1-1, with Memphis Depay scoring for Barca, the club confirmed that there is discomfort in Pique’s left calf. He will undergo tests soon, probably in this week, where the extent of the injury will be assessed.

Concerns regarding the injury of Gerard Pique

Ronald Koeman will hope that the injury of Gerard Pique won’t get serious. Especially with a match against Getafe coming in the next weekend, and also a clash with Sevilla is on the way. Earlier, Gerard Pique was not able to appear in 18 league games, because of his injury last season. Araujo played for the club in Pique’s absence.

Pique was even out of football for 4 months, from November to February. He returned by recovering but unfortunately again caught up by this knee issue.

The match

The match was drawn with a score of 1-1, at the San Mames Barria Stadium. Initially, there were no goals when Gerard Pique got an injury. Also in the whole first half, the score was 0-0. It was in the 50th minute when Inigo Martinez got the first goal of the match and gave Athletic Bilbao a lead.

Till the 74th minute, there was no goal, and in the 75th minute, Memphis Depay scored the equalizer. The game ended with neither of the sides being able to score since then. Eric Garcia got out of the match just a few minutes before its ending, in the additional time, by seeing a red card from the referee.
