Rio Ferdinand raises doubt over Varane’s adaptability to the Premier League but believes the Frenchman will succeed at Manchester United eventually

Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane has been long rumoured to be a target of Premier League club Manchester United. And now finally it has been made public that personal terms have been agreed between Varane and United and also Real Madrid and Manchester United have come to an agreement over the transfer fee.

It has been reported that Manchester United and Real Madrid have agreed on £34m plus another £7m in add-ons for the Frenchman. However, Real Madrid will have to pay £1m to Varane’s former club Lens as solidarity payment on the transfer.

Manchester United’s legendary defender Rio Ferdinand has now raised his doubts over whether Varane can adapt to the Premier League but he also thinks the World Cup winner to eventually succeed at Old Trafford.

Talking on his FIVE YouTube channel, Ferdinand said, “On paper it looks a very, very good combination, but he’s got to understand the English game is very different. You’ve got to go to Burnley and places like that.”

“Sometimes it can be up and at ’em, a different style of football in the Premier League to anything he’s played in before. Can he deal with it? They’re the questions he’s going to get asked.”

“Balls getting wrapped around his ear holes, crosses from different angles that he hasn’t seen on a consistent basis in Spain where they play more on the floor, slower football, slower build up.”

“So he’s going to be asked to defend in a different way and that’s where he’s going to have to show his real class, can he adapt? That’s the real question. I genuinely believe he’s got the tools to do that.”
