35 Barcelona athletes to compete at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics

One of the latest news in the football world is that FC Barcelona is going to compete at the Tokyo Olympics 2021. The Olympic Games for this year will start on 23rd July. There will be 35 athletes, who will perform in five distinct spots. Also, it is expected that many of them will win medals, being a strong contender.

The Tokyo Olympics is just 5 days to begin from now and will go on till 8th August. Various fans from their respective countries will cheer for their nation’s athletes. In this regard, the Barca fans will also get to see their 35 sportsmen and women, competing in the tournament, via TV and virtual fan walls.

Hopes for Medals

There is a certain hope for medals as many Barca is sending players for five separate sports. Have a look on them below.

In Track and Field

A total of seven women and four men will compete in the track and field events. The biggest medal prospect from this club is Yulimar Rojas. She is a four-time world champion and was the Women Athlete of the year in 2020.

She broke the world indoor record in 2016, with a jump of 15.43m. Apart from her, Nubia Soares, Nelson Evora, Adrian Ben, Raquel Gonzalez, Aauri Lorena Bokesa Sebastian Martos, Carolina Robles, Jael Sakura Bestue, and Pablo Sanchez are expected to show their efficiency well.


Barca has always represented themselves in basketball. Their definite squad is yet to be announced, but Pau Gasol, Pierre Oriola, and Alex Abrines are in the run and are expected to take their team to the peak.


Barcelona is sending a 13 man handball squad to the Tokyo Olympics. It is a record presentation in Handball, and no other club has sent players in handball to this amount. From this game, Barca is sending a variety of players from different countries who play for FC Barcelona.

From France, the players who are coming are Dika Mem, Melvyn Richardson, Ludovic Fabregas, and N’Guessan. And from Spain, there are Angel Fernandez, Raul EntrerRios, Gonzalo Perez de Vargas, and Aleix Gomez.

Also, Leonel Maciel is coming from Argentina, and Luis Frade is coming from Portugal. Besides, from Brazil, Haniel Langaro and Thiagus Petrus are coming, and Ali Zein from Egypt.


The experienced captain Miki Delas will lead Barcelona in hockey. He has helped the club to attain the fifth and sixth position in their previous games, and could probably lead his team to attain a favourable position.


And one and only, for which FC Barcelona is most famous, i.e. the football team is also going to take part in Tokyo Olympics. The club is sending six footballers to Tokyo, with three men and women.

Among the men include, Pedri Oscar, Eric Garcia, and Mingueza and among the women, there are Fridolina Rolfo, Lieke Martens, and Giovana Queiroz. Barcelona is sending a strong team indeed and is certainly a strong prospect to win a medal.
