The BCCI is ready to organize the mega auction for the upcoming IPL season of 2022. Though the mega auction was scheduled to take place in the 2021 IPL season, the covid-19 scenario postponed it for a year. The mega auction for the 15th edition of IPL will take place in early 2022, with two new teams to be inducted as well.
Induction of the Two New Teams in IPL 2022
It has been affirmed that two new teams are going to kick off at the IPL 2022. One between them is going to be Ahmedabad, and the other team is yet to be finalized. Many people have expressed their interest to get franchise rights, and we will see soon, who secures this fortune.
The Adani group of Ahmedabad, RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group of Kolkata, Torrent Group of Gujarat, Aurobindo Pharma Ltd of Hyderabad are some potential buyers who have showed their desire to buy the new IPL franchises.
The pursue limit of all the IPL teams was 85 crores earlier, but the Cricket Board of India will probably increase the pursue limit to 90 crores, with the taking in of 2 teams more. Hence, the budget for buying the players will increase by 5 crores.
Player Retention Norms and New Salary Structure
The Mega auction of the 15th IPL edition will also bring a cap on player retention a new salary structure. As per the new rule, every franchise can now retain a maximum of 4 players. It can either be two Indians, and two overseas players, or three Indian players, and 1 overseas player.
If any of the IPL franchises retain 3 players, their salary structure would be INR 15 crores, INR 11 crores, and INR 7 crores respectively, whereas the salary structure would be INR 12.5 crores and INR 8.5 crores, in case any franchise retains two players. In case any team retains only a single player, his salary structure would be 12.5 crores.
IPL 2020 Mega Auction Tentative Fixtures
IPL 2022 mega auction will tentatively take place in December 2021 and is expected to start from 3:30 PM IST. The broadcasting channels have not been announced yet.
