Brazil knocked out Chile from the race to the semi-finals on Friday, by defeating them with a 1-0 score at Rio, on Friday. The match remained goalless in the first half of the game, but the first and only goal of the game came early in the second half.
Performance of Brazil
A significant thing from Brazil’s side was that they achieved the victory, with only 10 players, when Gabriel Jesus was shown a red card by the referee in the 48th minute. Brazil created many chances in the game, and earlier than they scored the goal. In the 20th minute, Neymar assisted Roberto Firmino, but the Liverpool striker failed to net the ball.
Performance of Chile
Chile also presented wonderful performance, and the ultimate dark horse of Copa America didn’t fail to give a tough fight to the Brazilians. The Chilean forwarder, Eduardo Vargas fooled Thiago Silva with some moves, performed individually.
The first goal came soon after the half-time
Lucas Paqueta, who came as a substitute in the second half, didn’t take time to do his work. In the 46th minute, he scored the first and only goal of the match. However, soon in two minutes, the referee showed the red card to Gabriel Jesus, as he wanted to shot the ball with a harsh high kick, but eventually, it caught the face and shoulder of Eugenio Mena.
Chile got more confidence with the advantage of playing with extra players, compared to Brazil. However, the Brazilian players didn’t lose confidence, and continued to play efficiently, and secured the win.

With this win against Chile, Brazil will now face Peru in the semi-finals, who defeated Paraguay in the quarters, earlier that day. The match will take place on Tuesday, 6th July, at the Olympic Stadium.
