Spain owned a dramatic victory against Croatia in the top 16 knockout stages of the EURO 2020 on Monday. The match went par the 90 minutes to an extra time of 30 minutes, to get a specific result, and it went in for Spain.
Spain eventually faced its own goal, which was an unexpected lead for Croatia in the 20th minute. Unai Simon, the Spanish goalkeeper, conceded Pedri’s backpass tossing the ball, and it entered the net.
However, Spain gave superbly replied to this, when Pablo Sarabia scored in the 38th minute. And soon they took the lead when Cesar Azpilicueta and Ferran Tores netted their goals in 57th and 76th minutes respectively.
An incredible fightback from Croatia
The match went in for Spain till the 84th minute. Croatia was trying their level best to come back, and it eventually happened in the 85th minute. Mislav Orsic scored the second for Croatia making it 2-3. Mario Pasalic the Croatian mid-fielder, took back Croatia in the game, scoring the equalizer, that too in the additional time.
The Game after 90 minutes
Spain made a positive start in the additional time. Soon they scored back-to-back goals, one in the 100th and another in the 103rd minute in the name of Alvaro Morata, and Mikel Oyarabal, respectively. Croatia was doing good but couldn’t deliver themselves, up to the mark. Though they took few shots in the additional minute, unfortunately, the ball didn’t hit the net.
The additional time saw two goals, both scored by Spanish players, and in the end, they were had the victory crown. Croatia made an incredible fightback in the last 10 minutes before the additional time, but couldn’t do it again on the additional time, consequently got knocked out of the tournament.

Spain will lock horns with Switzerland on Friday, July 2nd, at the Krestovsky Stadium. Switzerland emerged victoriously against France, to gain this position in the quarters on Tuesday, where the game went to a penalty shootout.
