The series has been set in the state of Uttar Pradesh and it will revolve around its state politics. The series will be mainly focused on how politics and crime get connected with each other. The filming of the series had started before the pandemic had begun. The show seems to follow the long-form series format.
Choona stars Jimmy Sheirgill Namit Das, and Monika Panwar. The whole cast also includes Aashim Gulati, Vikram Kochhar, Gyanendra Tripathi, Chandan Roy, Atul Srivastava, and Niharika Lyra Dutt.
The official Twitter handle of Netflix has formally introduced the series to its audiences on 16th June 2021 by sharing one of its initial posters. The posters give off an intense look. They also shared a small phrase by giving a hint about the theme of the series, which reads, “The hustle is real. Don’t be fooled”. While the first look of the series has been made public, not much has been revealed about what to expect from it. Simultaneously the filmmaker Pushpendra Nath Misra on Wednesday announced his upcoming Netflix series Choona.
In the middle of the ongoing pandemic, it is set to be released on an OTT platform named Netflix. It is expected to be released in the second half of this year.
Reactions from the Director’s desk
Talking about the show, Pushpendra Nath Misra said, “What comes to your mind when you hear the word Choona? For me, it is the quintessentially Indian flavor of ‘choona lagaana’ (deceive someone).”
“The excitement of discovering who deceived whom and how they did it is incomparable, especially when it’s the weak pitted against the powerful. There’s no synonym that can do justice to this feeling. Since we are all about the drama and rooting for the underdogs,” the director added.
Pushpendra Nath said the show is the perfect blend of the heist genre with the “lightness of a comedy”. “Put this together with amazingly talented actors in a long-form series format, and you get ‘Choona’,” he concluded.
