Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has announced that former Liverpool player Georginio Wijnaldum has confirmed and signed the official papers of PSG for free.

Wijnaldum seemed destined to sign for Barcelona for many months, but at last, PSG has managed to snatch him from Barcelona’s hand and sign him for free from Liverpool.

“Born in Rotterdam, and a product of the Sparta Rotterdam youth academy, he played for two of the biggest clubs in his homeland in Feyenoord (135 matches, 25 goals) and then PSV Eindhoven (154 matches, 56 goals) with whom he won the 2014-15 Eredivisie title. After a season at Newcastle United, ‘Gini’ joined Liverpool FC in the summer of 2016. The versatile midfielder won the 2019 UEFA Champions League with the Reds and the English Premier League crown in 2019-2020. He made 237 appearances and scored 22 goals for the Reds, also lifting the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2020″, PSG stated.

“Signing for Paris Saint-Germain is a new challenge for me,” explained Georginio Wijnaldum after signing his contract. “I’m joining one of the best squads in Europe and I want to bring all my desire and commitment to this ambitious project. Paris Saint-Germain have proved how good they are in recent years and I am convinced that together, with our supporters, we can go even further and higher”

The Dutchman’s contract with Liverpool is over at the end of this month, and any club could have signed for free from Liverpool.

Georginio Wijnaldum is 30 years old, but then also PSG has bought him in this summer window because Wijnaldum was excellent for Liverpool making 237 appearances and scoring 22 goals. He had a great role in Jurgen Klopp’s team for winning the Champions League scoring a crucial brace goal against Barcelona in the semi-finals and was also crucial in their Premier League winning campaign.

He is also a key member of Netherlands national teams because he made 75 appearances and scored 22 goals. He is now preparing for Euro 2020 with the national team.

Wijnaldum will play alongside Idrissa Gana Gueye and Marco Verratti, with Ander Herrera, Rafinha and Leandro Paredes in the PSG midfield.
