The governing authority of the Champions League, i.e., the UEFA, has allowed Barcelona to enter the 2023/24 Champions League. The Catalan giants were informed this Friday that they would be allowed to compete in the next edition of the UCL. Several reports state that Joan Laporta and his board received this news from UEFA on Friday, with European football’s governing body has completed its analysis of all the information related to the ‘Negreira Case.’ This decision signifies that Barcelona will not be sanctioned with a ban from the next edition of the continental tournament, with the group stage draw to take place on August 31 in Monaco.

Barcelona thought that there would be no ban

The Barcelona club directors were convinced that no ban would be there, and President Joan Laporta explained several times that he had a word with Aleksander Ceferin about the ‘Negreira Case’ and that he believed there would be no ban. Now, this Friday, that has been confirmed to the directors at the Catalan institution. Given that there was no statue of limitations at the continental level on this case, UEFA could have banned Barcelona had they found reason to do so, but they have decided that there is no basis for this.

Certainly, this news came as a major relief for Barcelona; though the verdict might not be fully on their side, has been an expected one. Beyond the sporting damage that not participating in this competition would have done to Barcelona, there was the economic factor at a time when the Blaugrana’s coffers were under great pressure. It is to be seen how the Catalan giants perform with these things on their shoulders. However, these might not affect the performance of the players.
