‘Night Night’ celebrations have taken the sports world by storm since Stephen Curry first used it at the Golden State Warriors’ championship this summer.

Before Stephen Curry put the Denver Nuggets, Memphis Grizzlies, Dallas Mavericks, and Boston Celtics to sleep in the playoffs, no doubt other athletes performed some variations in the celebration.

But when it comes to the ‘Night Night’ celebration, Stephen Curry seems to have made it one of the most popular gestures in esports.

Almost every sport has celebrated this event, ever since the NBA Finals. For example, WNBA player Sabrina had used it to stop a game-winning shot, while Milwaukee Brewers’ outfielder Andrew McCutchen used it to stop a home run streak.

The ‘Night Night’ Celebration’s Soaring Popularity Amongst Athletes

It was taken to a whole new level in July when one kid actually got down on the floor to celebrate. Of course, Curry was in favor of it.

This celebration has carried over into the world of European football. After winning the DFL Supercup, some of FC Bayern’s Munich players even mimicked the ‘Night Night’ celebration.

Neymar took a part in celebrating this event during PSG’s 5-2 victory over Montpayer in Ligue 1, while Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele celebrated this after scoring the goal against Juventus last season.

The Midfielder of Tottenham, Eric Dier seems to have taken part in this celebration for a promotional shoot during the Premier League.

Curry has also gained the respect of other great athletes in the sports world, as Lionel Messi swapped shirts with him and Tom Brady congratulated him about his recent championship.

With that in mind, Stephen Curry seems to be the most popular athlete in the sport right now.

The Origin of ‘Night Night’ Celebration

“I was just having fun,” Curry stated when reporters asked about the origins of the celebration during the Warriors’ playoff series against Dallas.

“You talk about having kids. You know how bedtime routines are important. It’s the final signal for a job well done that day. Pretty special.”
