Roman Reigns’s reign as the WWE Undisputed Universal Champion has been record-breaking, as he has been the champion for more than a thousand days, which is also the third-longest World Championship reign in the organization’s history and is presently being held by him. It has always been a thing of speculation about who would eventually dethrone Roman Reigns and become the new champion, but every time a challenger came, Reigns somehow managed to dethrone the challenger. However, recent reports state that WWE is planning for Roman Reigns to drop the title to the 38-year-old superstar. Check out!
Roman Reigns to be dethroned as the champion
The 2023 Royal Rumble champion and company’s sexiest babyface was Cody Rhodes. When Rhodes faced Reigns, the crowd was entirely in support of him, but as soon as Reigns won, the crowd’s enthusiasm vanished as they saw there would be no new champion.
Reports state that Cody Rhodes is thought to be the candidate chosen by WWE to unseat Roman Reigns. Even though he didn’t ”Finish the Story” at WrestleMania 39, he will eventually do so. Before that, though, Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa are set to fight each other. Before his two titles merged, Reigns was technically the Universal and WWE Champion. He is currently merely the WWE Universal Champion, Undisputed. Reigns now holds a title that didn’t exist before, prompting fans to inquire about his ancestry once more. Does WWE choose which lineage Reigns continues to add to, or has he formed a totally new one?
On the other hand, Cody Rhodes lost at The Show of Shows, and Eric Bischoff stressed that it wasn’t a mistake. He stated that his viewpoint changed right away following the fight. However, Bischoff’s opinion has been shaped by recent work from the WWE creative team, prompting him to speculate about Rhodes’ potential for a more bright future.
WWE, however has expanded despite The American Nightmare’s failure, according to Dave Meltzer’s observation in the aforementioned piece. It is, therefore, really a thing to consider that weather Roman Reigns will drop his title to Rhodes or not, but as per the storyline, it seems like it is likely to happen.
Roman Reigns’s record breaking title reign
As mentioned, Roman Reigns is having a record-breaking title reign, and it is also confirmed that he isn’t dropping the titles since the upcoming Wrestlemania. From having some phenomenal matches against contenders like Brock Lesnar, Kevin Ownes, Edge, Sami Zayn, Jey Uso, Drew McIntyre, etc., the Tribal Chief has come through a lot to this and still has been able to defend himself as the Champion.
Though at Summerslam, his cousin brother Jey Uso nearly defeated him; however, due to the interference of Jey’s twin brother Jimmy, Main Event Jey Uso eventually lost the match, and Roman Reigns successfully defended his title. It is to be seen who eventually dethroned Reigns as the new champion.
