Overwatch 2 will be released on Steam on August 10, with additional Blizzard titles to follow. Blizzard has been hosting its games on its Battle.net platform since the 1990s, so fans are likely to be surprised by the move to bring Overwatch 2 to Steam. The 10th of August is going to be a huge day for Overwatch 2.
On that day, Blizzard will release Overwatch 2 Season 6 with the special Invasion update, which will include a brand-new Support hero, the Flashpoint game mode, and co-op PvE story missions that continue the plot of the game. The surprise decision to make Overwatch 2 available on Steam will go a long way towards solidifying August 10 as one of the most momentous days in Overwatch’s history since the original edition of the hero-shooter launched in 2016.
Activision Blizzard stated in its most recent earnings report that Overwatch 2 player engagement is declining.
Many PC gamers only play on Steam, thus introducing the game on Steam allows potentially millions of other games to jump into Overwatch 2 and help give the game a genuinely big boost when the highly-anticipated August 10 update arrives.
Those planning to play Overwatch 2 on Steam should keep in mind that it will support Steam achievements and Steam friends lists. While gamers will not be required to play the game through Battle.net, Overwatch 2 on Steam will require a Battle.net account. This is true across all platforms where Overwatch 2 is currently available, however, it may cause some Steam users to hesitate.
Overwatch 2 is available now in early access for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
