Even though the Gamescom Opening Night Live demonstration wasn’t the most exciting gaming event of the year, there were still enough updates and announcements to please lovers of all kinds of games. Phantom Liberty DLC for Cyberpunk 2077, which provided fans their first thorough look at the gameplay modifications and upgrades that are coming with the expansion in September, was by far one of the biggest revelations of the entire Gamescom expo.

While the trailer itself was very exciting, the anticipation reached a new level when CD Projekt Red appeared on stage at Gamescom to reveal that the majority of these new gameplay features would also be included in Cyberpunk 2077’s base game, at least for those playing on current-generation consoles and computers. The Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 Update, which will be released for free on September 26, will update some gameplay elements, including skill trees, vehicle combat, and enemy AI.

Update 2.0, which will launch on September 26 simultaneously with the Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty expansion, will significantly improve the gameplay in Cyberpunk. The revamped perk and Cyberware system are among the 2.0 Update’s most significant changes. Some of the new features arriving with Update 2.0 were shown off in the most recent Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty teaser, and they all appear sufficiently amazing. There are several new finishers, a slo-mo air dash, a deadeye, and a perk that lets players block shots with a sword.

The 2.0 Update for Cyberpunk 2077 also adds a Relic skill tree, and the trailer included some of these new skills.

A Launch Capacity Override lets players fire several wrist-launcher grenades in rapid succession, while a Limiter Removal Relic appears to allow players to throw enemies into the air with just their fists. Other relics point out enemies and enable quick movement towards them.

Vehicle combat is a significant enhancement to the gameplay that should be present in Update 2.0. With Update 2.0, players will now be able to battle foes while driving, and in a variety of ways. Originally, Cyberpunk 2077 had no form of vehicle combat at all. As in 007: No Time to Die, players will be able to lean out the window and shoot a few bullets from a handgun, twist their car around and fire machine guns, and even hack an enemy vehicle to make it suddenly accelerate, brake, or even self-destruct. This system complements the updated police AI system in Cyberpunk 2077, which causes the game’s cops to act considerably more realistically.

The 2.0 Update for Cyberpunk 2077 will also include over 100 new goods, including new guns, clothes, Cyberware, and vehicles. Although it hasn’t been made clear how much of this will be included in Update 2.0 for the main game, it appears likely that everything indicated here will be made accessible as part of the free update. The Phantom Liberty expansion is more likely to keep aspects like the “dozens of new story quests and gigs,” a “dangerous new district,” and possibly even the “endless dynamic events and missions” hidden behind a paywall.
