Super middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has declared his plans to have his next fight in September. He remarked the same during a Real Estate development expo in Mexico City, where he confirmed that discussions would happen at the earliest.
Next fight in September 2023: Canelo Alvarez declares
Speaking about the same, he said,
“Yes, I will fight in September, but I still don’t know with whom or anything. Next week we’re going to sit down and talk about it.”
Canelo Alvarez had his recent fight on May 6 in Guadalajara, Mexico. He was successful in defending his World Boxing Association (WBA), World Boxing Organization (WBO), International Boxing Federation (IBF), and World Boxing Council (WBC) super middleweight titles against John Ryder.
The bout ended with Alvarez winning by unanimous decision, with scores of 120-107, 118-109, and 118-109.
Ever since Canelo Alvarez’s return to boxing in Mexico following a 12-year absence, Alvarez has stated his willingness to a rematch with Russian fighter Dmitrii Bivol, who defeated him in May 2022. Consequently, Alvarez failed to achieve the WBA light heavyweight belt.
David Benavidez has thrown a challenge to Alvarez as well. However, at present, Canelo Alvarez hasn’t affirmed the challenge. Even Mauricio Sulaiman, President of the World Boxing Council, has declared that he will not pressure the champion to do the same.
Will he fight in Mexico again?
Regarding the location of his upcoming fight, Alvarez didn’t reject the possibility of fighting in Mexico. He expressed his willingness to potentially compete at the Azteca Stadium, which will be hosting the third men’s World Cup in 2026.
In his impressive boxing career, Alvarez has registered 59 wins, and 39 of those came by way of knockouts.
He has two loses in his career, one against Bivol and another one against former American boxer Flyod Mayweather.
