Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was recently ruled out due to a knee injury. Axar Patel is set to take his place in the remaining matches of Asia Cup 2022. Pakistan defeated Hong Kong on Friday which means they are going to meet the Men in Blue once again in the Round 2 of the Super 4 stage.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Axar Patel as the replacement for Ravindra Jadeja in the ongoing Asia Cup. Ravindra Jadeja has sustained a right knee injury and is ruled out of the tournament. He is currently under the supervision of the BCCI medical team. His replacement, Axar Patel was earlier named as one of the standbys in the squad and will join the team in Dubai soon,” BCCI said in a statement.
Axar Patel hasn’t yet joined the team, he’s still in the standbys. Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul have gone through several injuries this year. The all-rounder took a rest during the Zimbabwe tour and missed their home series against South Africa because of another injury. Axar Patel is most likely to replace Jadeja.
Jadeja is considered to be one of the finest all-rounders and his absence can prove to be a huge blow for the team. He mustered 35 runs against Pakistan in the first match of Asia Cup 22. he was economical in bowling as well. In the six overs when he bowled, he had one scalp for a 4.33 economy rate. The T20 World Cup is also nearing and the BCCi didn’t desire to risk it, so they gave Jadeja a break. He will be returning to India this week and taking a rest at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
India will play its next match against Pakistan on Sunday, September 4. Pakistan will try its best to not repeat the mistakes they made previously and India will want to deliver the same performance like the previous Sunday.
